So i saw some mice about a year ago in my chicken pen and didn´t think much of it as i have always seen them down the local stables where i kept my horse. I aways thought as long as they are not rats i´m ok.
Then we have various eggs go missing from under a goose and i put it down to her eating them.
Now its happening to the ducks that have nests. I have muscovys and one had 24 eggs under her and now onlt has 12 :-(
The others have the same but the are further away from where the holes are.
I started putting poison down the holes and covering them. The poison was taken and every few days later a new hole or the olds ones were reopened. I have repeatedly put poison down and the same happens..........................ummm, something tells me we have a lotttttttttttttttttt of mice.
I am thinking they are mice as i saw one when digging up manure from the pen. i must have disturbed it and it ran out into a chickens mouth and then i had to chase it until he let go. ( ididn´t want him to eat it)
So , today i put the hosepipe down a hole and put it on full. one mouse ran out from one hole and went down another, Over an hour later the water was still going down the whole with no sign of it over flowing or coming out anywhere else.
Do i have a tardis of tunnels or was the water just seeping away?
What else can i do. i think we might have thousands of them. I thought it was only rats that ate eggs, do mice eat them too.?
PLease help to save the rest of the eggs under the ducks. i am having a terible year so far with eggs disapearing, at this rate i wont have any babies
