Michigan says no more chickens

It's all well and fine to sign petitions. Just make sure that you also let your elected officials know that their support of this will result in you not voting for them in the future. And then stick to that.

So I am kind of confused about the whole thing. If I had chickens and abide by my twp ordinances does this effect me? Does it just keep people from going to court to try to keep their chickens that the city/twp doesn't allow?

If you are within code/ordinances, it doesn't affect you directly. What the change does is prevent small scale farmers from using the MRTFA to override local ordinances or codes. In the end, it hurts all small scale farmers. It was a change by an appointed panel that seems to have overturned a statute passed by elected legislators on a technicality.

There is an extensive thread on this. Up in the search box type, Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean to follow this important development from start to finish. If I was smarter I'd post the link, but I never have been able to do that right.
