Well, looks like in 2010 all semi-automatic handguns sold or transferred in Commi..I mean... California will be required to microstamp the cartridge when the gun is fired.

I've read that mutliple firearms companies, including GLOCK, Smith and Wesson, and Sigarms are considering no longer selling to the California market, though whether they will or not is yet to be determined.
People supporting the bill say that it will help solve gun crimes by allowing police to identify the gun used in a crime by examining the spent casings. People who oppose it say that it doesn't really solve anything, that the technology is immature and flawed, and that it is extremely easy to circumvent. In addition, criminals could gather spent casings at a range, and scatter them at a crime scene to confuse police.
This bill does not apply to shotgun, rifles, and revolvers, so most farm guns are safe
