We are considering raising midget whites as 4h projects, but have never raised turkeys and have a few questions.
1. Is there a good reference book?
2. How many eggs do they usually lay?
3.Do they lay year round?
4.How long will it take to finish a MW?
5.any special housing requirements?

Any advice,suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Not a book per se, but it is a good reference. Check out the ALBC site: http://albc-usa.org/EducationalResources/downloads.html

2. How many eggs do they usually lay?

I didn't keep good track, but I'd say at least 40-50 per hen, maybe more. Steve could tell you better I'd bet.

3.Do they lay year round?

In their first year they come close, but generally speaking turkeys are seasonal layers. Mine haven't yet started for this year. I'm expecting by the end of the month or the beginning of March.

4.How long will it take to finish a MW?

They can be ready in six months and only get better the longer you wait after that.

5.any special housing requirements?

Young heritage turkeys fly well so plan accordingly. Roosts, nest boxes, and square footage requirements are larger than with chickens.

The ALBC site I linked above will help you a lot.
