a local breeder has one advertised for sale, she is $30. as for age, she has simply been advertised as 'still young'. i was considering it, as i've wanted one for a while. My main concern is, where will i keep her? i can put her in with my chickens, but that's about it. mainly due to the fact that it's the only thing i can keep her in that's not open topped, because i keep my ducks in an open topped pen. i think with turkeys and chickens, the main concern is with disease, but i have some sulphaquin, so would i be able to keep them together? would i need a different kind of food to chickens for her?

thanks

lots of people keep thier chickens and turkeys together. I do, but I'm a newbie too - on my second year though with no problems. Mine all eat Flock Raiser together.

Check with folks around you to see if they keep theirs together, and check with the local ag dept to see if Blackhead (histomoniasis) is a problem in your area. Worm your flock before you add her with them (always a good idea to keep new birds in quarantine for at least a few weeks anyhow) and worm regularly. Yes, lots of folks keep them together and don't have problems, but some do have problems. I think sulphaquin is for coccidiosis, it won't help if blackhead is in your area. I don't want to scare you, a lot of us do keep chickens and turkeys together with no problems. Good luck, and you might want to build another covered run for when you get more.
