I did do the cola with the ibuprofen before I was pregnant, didn't think about the benadryl....would have helped with my sinus headaches

Yep yep, I was going to say that too, but with les detail, lol. The caffiene in chocolate (esspcially dark chocolate) is a natural headache reliever. I usually have a cup of strong coffee when I have a bad headache. It will either cure me comepletely or take the edge off so I can function.

I am glad to hear you listened to your body when you started craving the choclate, sounds like it knows what it is talking about

I hadn't thought of the fact that Dark choc would be more "potent"... Makes sense!

I experienced about 4 migraine attacks when I went through menopause (I started in my early 40's) and I'm convinced they are due to some sort of chemical deficiency (in my case hormone fluctuations). I finally went to a doctor who prescribed Maxalt - it was a life saver! But if I had known about chocolate (and I'm sure it was the dark chocolate that helped you), I would gladly have tried that. Thankfully I only had about 4, but they are horrible, so stock up on that dark chocolate!

I get migraines a lot and talked a doctor about it a few years back. He tried several prescriptions on me...none worked. But, I mentioned that coffee with espresso seemed to help some (thinking it was probably a placebo effect). He said that depending on the type of migraine, caffeine helps when other drugs don't. He explains that certain migraines are caused by the blood vessels constricting resulting in an increase in pressure. The caffeine dilates the blood vessels, hence reducing pressure and alleviating some (if not all) of the pain. Strong coffee (eh...espresso), dark chocolate and extra strength are my "drugs" of choice (usually together).

I used to get migraines frequently. The first one I remember making me alter plans/life, I was 4. We had to leave the movie we were watching (Herbie The Love Bug LOL) because I was in excruciating pain and started vomiting. They stopped when I got pregnant with my oldest son and never returned. I get cluster headaches now (oh gee.....fair trade). Anyway, the ONLY thing that ever helped mine was reese's peanut butter cups. Not just plain chocolate.....had to have the peanut butter for some reason. It seems to helps some with these headaches but not like it did with the migraines.

Every person is wired differently, and not all migraines are caused by the same thing.
