Hi friends.. I’m so worried about my Mildred. 💔 I have had a hunch she hasn’t been her 100% self the past few weeks but tonight she took a turn for the worse. In the past few months Mildred has had an off again on again red swollen abdomen but has been laying constantly. She is a 3 year old Sex Links so has laid many eggs. It’s been 2-3 days since she has laid an egg and in fact I think dropped a soft shell egg a few nights ago from her roost. She had a bout of runny poo too a few days ago. Today she seemed totally herself. Jumping on me.. free ranging…running around the yard. Tonight however Instead of being on her roost she is in nesting box puffed up and labored breathing that sounds a little gurgly. Eyes closing. I have her a calcium tab incase if being egg bound. I have seen her poo today once at least but I also haven’t been watching all day. Her comb seems more floppy now than earlier today. I’m really worried about her. Any suggestions? Mildred is my girl that seems to have raging hormones.. mounting other hens..rooster like behaviors… if that helps. Here she is earlier today and in box tonight. I appreciate any help! This pic of her butt shows the redness and swollen ness. Which tends to always go down…?

The one hen I've seen like this was a red sex link. She had ascites, which is liquid in the abdomen. Which is what I think was making her pant. It was my sisters hen and she chose to put her down. This hen also had cancer that had gotten pretty bad. Not saying that's exactly what's wrong with Mildred, but with her back end that puffy it looks like she has water in her belly.

Thank you. It’s actually hard and warm. The weird thing is I’ve noticed this for a long time and it comes and goes. Is ascites usually soft?

She is up and active but I am seeing runny poo that is yellowish… infection? Sorry for poo pic.. any thoughts? Continue with calcium? Amoxicillian? I don’t have a vet option and treat my girls at home the best I can 🙏🏻 Her breathing does sound a little labored despite being active.

New update..she is freeranging acting normal. A normal poo too AND I just found a very small soft egg in her poo on roost.. no yolk but complete with white inside. See pic. I’m thinking an egg reproductive issue… I’m keeping antibiotics going along with calcium. Any other thoughts? Normal poo pic below and egg I found.
