How old is your chicken, and has she been laying eggs recently? Some conditions can cause diarrhea, such as coccidiosis, worms, E.coli infection, respiratory diseases, and egg yolk peritonitis. Can you describe any symptoms? I would try to get some fresh droppings checked by a vet for worms and coccidiosis, and perhaps a gram stain for bacteria.

Very sorry for your loss. Was she sick very long? If you can refrigerate her body, and send it off on ice packs to your state vet or nearby poultry lab for a necropsy, that would be a good way to find out what was wrong.
