Came home today and was very determined to get the waterer and feeder set up and throw down some pine shavings, thus making the coop inhabitable. It was a balmy 70 degrees and no rain for 3-4 days. The birds are 5-6 weeks old and fully feathered, so I feel that they are more than ready. Also, they have SO much more room to move around, roosts (that they were using right away), predator proof, ventilation, food/water, all of the necessities.

...Why do I feel guilty like I've kicked my kids out of the house? I am worried sick about the little chicks (not so little now)!!

All access is locked and my dogs cannot get in. I know they are safe...but still...

Maybe it will be better in the morning when it is light out. We were unable to get everything ready to move them until it had just turned dark from dusk.

You mean you havent made the trip out to the coop after 11:00pm flashlight in hand to check on them.... Shame on you. If you asked more than half of the people on here would admit to feeling guilty and worried It gets easier. My 5 and 6 week olds are outside in the growout coop as well. I cant tell you how many times I have gone out to see whats happening when the GP starts to bark. But then I went out late at night to put horse blankets on when the temps dropped suddenly. that was a trip trying to put them on and holding a flashlight.lol We are all saps when it comes to our babies.

Go out to the coop with a flashlight to check on them!? My first night I slept in the coop with them. (just kidding)
