Hi all, quick question, has anyone in MN not had eggs in a while? I am thinking I am going on two months now. I know we have had plenty cold and no many days above 30 lately in most areas.

I have been reading the cold has a lot to do with it but I have at least five or six good layers and have nothing from them.

I have increased protein, some lights, and they exhibit normal behavior, just no nesting and laying. They all got good clean nesting boxes and a clean coop recently too in the last two weeks.

I'm in Jersey and we had a bunch of daysin the teens. I have three hens that are 2 years old only one of them started laying in the last 2 weeks. The crazy thing is I have four more that are only 6 months old three of which are laying

Need more info:
How old are your birds?
Did they molt last fall?
It's more about day length than temperature(within reason).
When did you add the lights and how long are they on?
When and how did you increase protein?
How many birds in how much space(in feet by feet)?
Pics would help.

Hi, 3 of the birds are 10 months, 2 leghorns I do not know, my 3 SLW are about 2.5. One RSL probably about 5, I have never seen her lay but she is the ring leader. One SLW just finished molting about two weeks ago, I think a couple molted last fall. I do not think the little ones did.

The lights are two warming lights I keep nearer to the ground as they like to sit around them when not roosting. Those have been in all winter and stay on 24/7 as they are connected to the water heater outlets. I do unplug them when we get lots of sunlight and warmer temps.

I recently started giving some meal worms and yogurt a few weeks back. Typically they get meal worms every other day.

9 birds in about a 8x10 coop

Red warming lights won't increase laying.....and are very dangerous.

Basically, your birds aren't going to start laying again until the day length increases to about 12-14 hours.

What is their normal feed..and is it available every one of the waking hours?

I do not use the lights often but I also have the lights very secure with more then just a clamp, and they enjoy them especially when its zero degrees or below inside the coop.

Normal feed is 18% all flock, available all day to them.
