Hello everybody! We live about an hour south/southwest of Minneapolis. We have a sweet little family: 2 boys and and a girl, a Mom, a Dad, and one Great Dane who thinks he's a little lap dog. We are looking to add chickens to our happy nest. I am interested in connecting with other Minnesota Chicken Lovers to learn from and possibly obtain chickens from.

We live on about 5 acres and are a woodworking/gardening/crafting bunch of artists. We've been busy the last year with our little peanut Charlie, who was born two years ago with half of a heart. She had her third surgery in September and had a long recovery. She is doing so well this spring and I am excited to get her outside and working in the garden! Her big brothers have already started: my seed starting table is full of goodies waiting for the soil to warm.

I'm happy to join BYC and am looking forward to an education from all of you!

from Pennsylvania!!!

You have found a bunch of friends here on BYC!

Your children will love raising chickens - watching them grow from chicks into hens is so rewarding! Oh, and their first eggs! You'll have a blast!!!

Welcome to BYC! I'm another Minnesotan. I live out in West-central MN. There's a nice handful of us on here.

I see you've only had 1 posting so far. I hope that's not because nobody else from MN chimed in. I'm hoping its because you've been busy with life and soaking in all the information on here. I know it blew me away at how much info was on here! The search feature is awesome. Actually, that's how I stumbled across your post.

I don't have any chicks to offer, but you've probably noticed chicks in the stores peeping away. There are many places, and people, that sell them and ship them in the mail. There's even an auction area on here that's located towards the bottom of the index page.

My first chicks were from the local farm store. Now I'm looking into getting some hatching eggs of the fun breeds for my girls to hatch and raise. I'm not sure when they will be available for me to get, but I will eventually have more than I can keep. I'm getting enough to make sure I end up with fertile eggs and that I'll get at least 1 pullet of each kind. The extras will be rehomed. If you think you may be interested in any once they get big enough to sex, let me know. I'm getting lavender Orpingtons, buff Orpingtons and Marans (not sure which color other than not cuckcoo).

Your interests sound similar to what we are into. You should post some pics of the wood working stuff. I'm curious. Do you have flowers in your yard? Our first tulips and daffodils just started blooming, and today the first magnolia bud started breaking bud. We even have a few bright cheery dandelions blooming (which I just had to add as my avatar).

Anyway, again, welcome to BYC. I hope you enjoy it here. There really are a lot of super folks here that can answer just about any questions you may have.

i'm a west central minnesotan too. my husband is an art teacher and i am a photographer/videographer who works from home.

three years ago we put our beloved great dane, otto, down because his rear legs had become crippled. it was the saddest thing. they are amazing dogs. right now we share our home with a lovely havanese girl named posh. supposedly these dogs were "chicken herders" and pets to the rich in cuba. i've downsized considerably since she is only 8 pounds!
