Hi all,

Pepper has this minor injury on her comb where it looks like the tip of the casing/skin of her comb was pecked off. She's the bully of the group so I wouldnt be surprised if someone struck back at her to cause it. Its not oozing or bleeding but since its so tiny not sure how to protect it from further pecking until its not so bright red. The picture is very close up but the red spot is about the size of a pin head so very small.

Any advice is appreciated!

I would not worry about the others going after it. Like you said, someone probably just lashed out at her. My hen Raven had a comb injury a little while ago and it bled a lot; I sat in the coop for a while and tried to clean her up, and though the others looked at her occasionally they never tried to peck her. It is unlikely that your birds will go for such a small spot unless they have a very small pen with nothing in it but each other.

I would put some antibiotic spray or cream (like vetericyn or neosporin without painkillers) on it to keep it clean, and sit with the birds for a while if possible to make sure no one’s going after her.

Thank you so much! This didn't bleed at all there is no dried blood anywhere on her comb it happened this morning I'm assuming when I went out to hang up their bunch of collards they all start to fight over it is probably what caused it because when I sat with them yesterday afternoon she didn't have it!

and correct they've got plenty of space but probably a little bored because i had to keep them in their run yesterday since there was a bobcat at the front door the day before but they have lots of logs, mirrors, swings, roosts etc to keep themselves occupied. Yesterday was also the first day in almost 3 weeks the temperature got above 25 so it probably felt like a nice warm spring day to them 😂 which made them more wanting to go out as well haha! I think it was like you said someone just getting her back because she gets real possessive over treats. I was just out sitting with them for about an hour and no one really even looked at it and they were all sitting on my lap together with easy sight access to the spot so that does make me feel better plus shes more than capable of sticking up for herself they all mostly give her a wide berth anyway haha! It's supposed to be -6 tonight so I don't want to spray her comb with anything wet this afternoon but in the morning I'll probably spray her with some of the antiseptic spray just to be safe. Thank you!!
