I got a call from the PO this morning, that my 10 baby turkeys had arrived, but were all dead. I'm so glad I went right over to pick them up. When we got home, I couldn't bear not to double-check all of them 85 times before putting them in the trash. I'm glad I did! I saw a leg kick, and picked that one up right away. He was cold to the touch, and barely breathing. I, at lightning speed, mixed together a warm water/corn syrup/electrolyte mixture and gave him 1-2 mL, and put him right out in the sun. It's the perfect temp out right now, 95 degrees exactly. He's soaking wet, they all were. I don't know how the box got wet, and they were shipped on Wednesday...so it's no wonder the rest died.
He pooped a little bit, made a bit of a peep, opens and closes his beak, but won't move other than that. I tell you what, if this little guy makes it...he'll be safe from being dinner for the rest of his life.
Next time you get a call to pick up your "dead chicks"...make sure you hurry over and check anyway, I'm glad I did!
I'll post a picture of him in a little bit.
