Two of my one year old buff runner ducks (The Sisters) have been sharing a nest for the past 28 days and today they hatched 7 adorable ducklings. Sooooo Cute! We figured that two moms are better than one, so we decided to let nature take its course and allow them to raise them naturally. All went well all day but at 10 pm the mama ducks decided to take their brood for their first swim in the stream. After the swim the babies could not get out of the water. The bank was too high for them. We decided they needed rescuing and indoor brooding. During the rescue we lost one of the seven in the waterfall. High drama and much comotion on the dark water. The remaining six are doing fine in the house much to the dismay of their moms.
We believe we have all they need in our established brooding box that we used for our chickens. We've been reading on this forum about polyvisol and niacin suppliments for ducklings.Do all ducklings need these, or just sick ones? One dose or ongoing? How to administer? We really want to do right by these little cuties and give them the best care. Please Advise!
Also, how long should we brood them and will their moms recognize and accept them after weeks of seperation?
Mucho thanks in advance!!!

I have tag team broody Runner's and Mallards that share duties too. I've never given any of my ducklings supplements unless they were sick and what I do to keep them familiar with their moms is make a small pen they can't get out of with chicken wire and during the nice part of the day put them out in it where the moms can see them and interact through the fence that way they stay familiar.

the vitamins are mostly for week, sick and birds that where shipped.
everything you need to know about using it is in simple terms on the bag.
