Misc coop questions

The coop is finished and a few question for you all

Question 1 We have a coop with 1 window and a nice big door. The coop is in an area that is fenced from top to bottom. When the chickens are in for the night the fenced area locked up do I leave the coop door open or closed. It seems like it would be hot during the summer or is it unsafe.

Question 2 Sawdust on the floor thick or thin? Does it get wet? Will a fine dusty sawdust be bad for them or should I stick to the pine shavings.

My thoughts...

1 - As long as there is adequate ventilation, they should be fine with the door closed.

2 - Personally, I'd stick with the pine shavings.

I ditto what K0xxx says. I think it is always safest to close the door, but you need to make sure there is ventilation. I use pine shavings too.
