Missing Chickens after attacks?

What I don't quite understand is what happens to some chickens after dog attacks. My chickens have been the victims of dogs in some way three different times in the past few months. We know who the dogs have been and had them returned to their owners or owners came to get the dog when notified.

First attack: I saved two chickens caught in neigbors puppies mouths and no bites or wounds. But later I had noticed my favorite chick of all missing, never to have been found along with another chick and two silkie roos.

Second attack: I had to go get my daughters bf to come get his dog when I could not stop him. One pullet missing with body not found.

Third and worst attack: 3 days ago. 2 young chickens found dead, another died that night, and two others with major wounds are being currently cared for. But still have 2 chickens totally unaccounted for. One other we know is dead because we found his wing. So sad to me. His sister/twin/mate and he actually loved each so that they were unseperable and called and ran to each other when apart. But she is badly hurt. One of the unaccounted for chickens is a special favorite cockeral.

Question is...what happens to those missing chicken?. It seems like a dumb question but I look all over. I never smell anything around the yard from decay. And I walk around the perimeter of yard and into woods a bit. Also look in neighbors yards. Sometimes chickens have come out from hiding the next day, but usually they just never come back.

Yes the chickens are all cooped up now. They haven't been out since the last attack. I do let them free range in the yard sometimes...at least before the last attack and sometimes ran errands. I got relaxed and went to work with them out. My daughter left but her bf's dog came from 1/3 of a mile and helped himself. She came home to the situation:(.
