Good evening.
I have 2 ducks, one of which has gone missing.
They live in our pond which is fenced off with both a wood fence and chicken wire around the inside. It is covered by lots of tall grass and trees. I know anything is possible but I find it hard to imagine a larger predator getting in there or if it did, doing so quietly enough not to wake them. They usually sleep on the water and under a tree that has fallen over.
Is it possible she has just gone off to nest?
we searched all around the perimeter but saw no signs of anything. It is dark though and we were using flashlights.
I know raptors would also be a concern but again, they are sleeping under a fallen tree.

I am still hoping she’s just hiding. Her sister and her are bonded to each other though. Seems weird they wouldn’t be together.

Hi.

Indeed, it is weird for a bonded duck to be away from her partner...!!

• Could you post pictures of your pond?

(Fences and all, too...)
...So it could, maybe, help people who would have an idea what is going on here...

• Could you tell us where you live?

Just to have an idea what predators (could) live in your area...

(...I have heard about "snapping turtles"...
Do you think you could have some in your pond?)

• What can you tell us about your ducks, exactly...?

Where do they sleep during the nights, for example?

(Do they have a coop? ...An enclosed run?
...Or do they sleep on the pond?)
