got home last night and after doing some yard work went to lock them in for the night. only to find out speck is missing, looked all over the yard and took a walk in the woods out back no sign of an attack anywhere. speck is one of my arucana x's and they usually all stay together and don't leave the run much at all. i figured i would lose one of the buff's 1st as they like to roam everywhere. i think that freeranging is out of the mix for awhile. i may just build a large run 4 them now instead of free range. any thoughts on what could have gotton speck? i thought a hawk but they usually attack and there would be a mess as w/ an attack from something else. could she have just left home, some of my neighbors have roos but they are a bit away, but i can hear their crows now and then. i'm stumped and it stinks to lose her she had some great markings.

I would be paying a visit to my neighbor's house this afternoon sometime to see if they have seen her and/or to see if she is roosting there. My neighbor also has chickens but mine have never strayed that way. There was one night that we were late getting home and the door to the coop was shut (by the wind we assume). We found 5 of our flock roosting in our barn....no sign of the other two. I looked in all the buildings nearby....all the trees nearby....no sign of them. When I went out to let the others out the next morning, my 2 hens were standing at the door to the coop "talking" to the others inside. Hopefully she will show up....

We have a problem with 'possums, 'coons, and foxes here....not to mention the hawks.... These all would usually leave at least a few feathers because the hens would fight I would think.

well yesterday morn i was out feeding/water/letting them out into the run and i noticed speck sticking her head out from under the coop, so i grabbed a mat and laid down and got her out. she was under there for about 1 1/2 days. not sure how she got there? but i think she may have got pushed under as they like to crowd together in the cool soft dirt that is there. anyway shes safe and i boarded up the gap so it can't happen again.
