These babies were sold to us as “buff Orpington” which obviously they are not. Any thoughts on which these sweet feathered friends are? We can’t place them.

Highly possible the hen was a Barred Rock. It looks like they have sex-linked barring with hens having no barring and the rooster having barring, so their mother was likely barred and their father was not. The father was likely a light-colored bird of some sort by their coloring, but I don't know specifically what. In my experience, Buff Orps tend to hatch out mixes that have a lot more features/coloring of Buff Orps, so I'm not sure Buff Orp factors into these birds at all.
