Hello BYC Family!

I recently noticed some of my girls have mites. Specifically, the ones that are broody. I’m currently in Puerto Rico. I’ve been to a few farm stores and for the most part they recommend Sevin dust which I read is a no go. I’ve talked to a bunch of my neighbors which are all elderly and they have also recommended Sevin dust. Also, Bronco Equine Fly spray. Has anyone had any experience with this? I also have Neem oil at home, but I’ve read is no that efective. I might be able to get something better off amazon, but even with amazon prime it might take a few days and I’m worried it might get worse. I was thinking about going to Walmart and Home Depot to check if they have anything that might be effective. Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

I have used sevin, and for the most part is worked well without side effects. Adamas flea and tick spray for dogs and cats works very well, it isn't natural

I have used Sevin years ago for lice, and the lice continue to move around in the removed eggs and feathers, so it seems to have lost it’s effectiveness. And more importantly, it is no longer approved for poultry. Bronco equine spray I believe is permethrin, and yes it should work against the mites or lice. Permethrin garden dust (Prozap or ) is a little more tolerated during cool weather when you don’t want to get them wet. More economical would be Martins or Gordons permethrin 10 concentrate which is mixed with water(5 ml per liter/quart of water) in a spray bottle or garden sprayer. That can be used on chickens or in the coop, nests, and roosts.
