Tonight I went to close up the coop, as it just turned dark, and gather eggs. When I got inside my house with the eggs,I noticed mites crawling on the eggs. I went back to the coop with a light and saw them on the roosts, and nest boxes. Some where clear and some black. Very tiny.
First time I have ever seen them. I just put in fresh hay a week ago, wondering if they came from that. Any ideas on what kind and how to get rid of them?

Did you check the birds, especially around the vent? At dark, while they are roosting, with a flashlight. Permethrin spray is very effective and easy to use; it's my first best choice for mites and lice, on the birds and in the coop. Look for it at the feed store; a small bottle of concentrate will last a long time! Mary
