I had a cursed hatch and am dealing with even more bad luck, looking for any advice on lice/mites on a very little Serama chick. She’s lost her mom (unfortunately to a Fox), and I realized when I took her in that she’s crawling with bugs!! Before anyone comes for me, we had given mom a maintenance dose of ivermectin while she was sitting on eggs, as a precaution, and we had deep cleaned the coop within the last month. I’m truly not sure how it happened..

We tried DE yesterday, making sure to work it into her fluff, but she was still infested this morning to the point of blood dots on her wing. I moved on to bigger guns and have dusted her with Sevin powder today, which seems to have worked much better and sent the bugs running to the surface and away. We’re monitoring her temporary isolation brooder and haven’t seen anymore crawlies since dusting and letting it settle for a bit, but I’m still terrified they’ll come back or are hiding against her skin again.

I’d like to further prevent, but I’m not sure ivermectin is safe for a chick this small/young. Does anyone have dosage ideas or advice on how to make sure she gets healthy? For my adult seramas, I’ve successfully used a single drop of 5% pour over Ivermectin from a syringe On their skin to cure leg mites and keep the rest of the flock protected. But I’ve never dared to mess with a much smaller chick.

Pic of her snuggling for cute tax ❤️
