Mite?

Can anyone tell me what mites look like? I went in my coop today and there were alot of these little black gnatty looking things flying around. I cleaned out the coop completely. I checked all my ladies and none had any on them but it kind of scared me because I have had some birds have trouble growing back feathers after a hard molt. Are these black flying things mites?

i didn't know they were even on my rooster when he had them and neither did the vet... he had to do a skin scraping. a week later that vet never returned my phone calls or treated my roo, so i took him to another vet. well the mites had multiplied in the weeks time (between 2 vet trips) and he was infested! the ones on him were tiny and gray and crawled all over his skin. we used frontline spray on him and he was mite free in 3 days!
