Mites again!?

I found bugs on a hens egg. Is it mites?
I will get a pick of a egg with then on it, I put the egg suspect in the fridge before I got a pick. And I think they all disappeared .

I wouldn’t put an egg with bugs int he fridge. It could contaminate other food. Next time if you see it, please get pictures.

How often do you clean out the coops? Check the chickens over at night with a flashlight, you’ll see mites crawling up their legs if they have them.

If you have mites then next time you clean the coop you might be able to see them.

I use a head lamp so I have both of my hands free to inspect the birds. You can also take a paper towel and rub under the roosts and see if you get any smears on the paper towel. That is another sign of mites present. If you do have mites my choice of treatment would be permethrin. I use poultry dust in my nest boxes. Good luck...

Thanks! I used D-earth last time I demited. I don't think it works .

DE didn't work for me either. I know some people swear by it but my birds kept looking worse until I started using permethrin. It took 3 or 4 weekly treatments but the birds did improve and are beautiful again.

I tried DE once. It *might* help prevent the mites, but if you already have a bunch of mites than it won’t help. Diatomaceous earth is actually a respiratory irritant as well.

i was expolring my propery when i foun this bucket if black stuff and mites were all over in it! it was right next to the coop! i need to discard those!
