I am really new to this. I have a compost bin not too close but not too far from the coop. I put chicken droppings, pines havings and table scraps in it. Tonight I looked at it and it looked as though one of the kids threw sand in it. When I looked closer all of the sand was "moving". Looking up compost bins, I think these sand-like creatures are mites. The compost sites said they are fine, even good in a compost pile but will they bother the chickens? Are these the type of mites that get on chickens? Anyone ever see this before? I use DE in the coop and run and the chickens do not appear to have anything on them. Please help. I am a little creeped out by this.
