Hi

I have found these little black bugs on and in with my chicks is there anything I can do for them? I do have some sevin-5% dust but I am worried it will hurt them.

TIA

food and feed grade diatomaceous earth works. Tractor Supply sells Red Lake DE .

forgot to add - although there are several web-sites out there that indicate all the other benefits of Diatomaceous Earth and the benefits of using DE for human consumption there are no DE products registered with the US Feed Regulatory Agencies for Human Consumption.

Basically, it should be called feed grade not food and feed grade IMO.

Mites will kill chicks if not taken care of asap. Cut the foot off an old pany hose or knee high and put the Sevin in it. Gently pat it all over the chicks being careful not to get it in their eyes, nose or mouth. The area they're in will also have to be cleaned out and dusted. Repeat in 10 days. DE will not kill mites/lice or worms.

I've dusted baby robins that were covered with those tiny black demons and they were fine.

i bought some spray too that worked. you have to clean the bedding and their area they are kept in...thats were they are hatching. spray it all. had a damp hutch with white call covered. dusted them after too..
