hello! my silkie just hatched 3 standard mix babies today. i’ve had a mite problem but i’ve been using eprinex pour on for all my adult birds and it does the trick, but now that mom is treated they’re going for the babies! is a drop of the eprinex on the babies safe to do or is dusting them a better way to go? TIA

btw i’ve been trying to treat the coops with permethrin but i’m not sure if it helps! any advice on a good pesticide for coops safe for chickens would be appreciated!

Are you able to do a through coop cleaning? That means washing the walls, floor, ceiling, using dish soap and bleach with a scrubber brush?

The soap bleach mixture must be rinsed off and air dried before chickens can occupy it. This also applies to the exterior of the coop also. Dish soap kills most insects including mites, bleach disinfects the surface. Becareful not to inhale the mixture.

i will do this as soon as i can! will need to pick a nice sunny day here to do it. do you have any recommendations in the meantime for the babies? do you think dusting them with some poultry dust should be ok?

Use Dawg53 recommendations, use permethrin dust, work on individual chicks in dusting area, wear a mask, try to minimize getting the dust into the air.

Dont put Eprinex on chicks. Use permethrin dust to dust the chicks using your fingers to gently rub the powder on them. Dont forget the mama also. Repeat dusting them in 10 days.
done! thank you. i will keep an eye on babies. thank you for responding! 🙏🏻
