Mites & Sevin dust

This is the first time this has ever happened so I was grossed out but...

My chickens have MITES or fleas (insert "ewwww" here).

I cleaned out & vacuumed the entire coop, dusted all the chickens and put Sevin in every nook & cranny.

I'll repeat in about 10 days, but my question is this... When will my chickens start to get their feathers back? They look like nasty chickens right now & I'd like to know when they'll start to look pretty again. ha!

Any clue, people?

If the feathers are out completely they should regrow before a molt, but you might have to wait. Increase their protein intake... this might help. Good luck

Thanks! Also... Do I need to discard their eggs when I'm dusting them with the Sevin? Or are they ok to eat still...

another thing you can use for mites is Sulfer you can get it at most feed stores and put it in a small metal can and burn it in the coop this will kill any littel insect in the coop but one thing is do it when your chicken are not in the coop and keep them out all day so do it in the morning this is the same thing the old timers did and even used it in thier house for bug control like some use bombs for

Okay! Thanks for letting me know I don't have to throw out all the eggs. That would just be a bummer...

IF you use the Sulfer you would not want the eggs if you have ant in thier but you wouldnt want any chicken in thier coop for the day eathir seven dust may be ok but i wouldnt want to eat any they had seven dust on them as well

SEVIN-5 Dust ................... 7 days for roots (potato/carrot)................14 days for tops(greens/lettuce)......................BUT it is bedding/birds your dusting not the yolk....................You are not feeding it to them are you?............................then........................your choice....................................I would eat the eggs........if you are not comfortable, then cook them and feed them back for protien and wait 14 days until the lettuce is washed.
