I'm assuming the dang wild quails are sharing their parasites. They hang out on the wood fence close to my coop and they get into the run since I usually let my girls roam the yard as they please so the coop is open all day. They have always had diatomaceous earth in the coop and in dust bathing areas but this is becoming too much for that to handle. Has anyone ever had a pest control company treat the coop for mites? I read on one website they can do that but the my regular bug guy has never done it for chickens before. He was confident it should be safe and effective. I was just wondering if any of you have done it before? I know there are things I can do myself but if they can do it included with regular visits for spiders and things I might as well have them do it right? They say all the sprays are pet safe as soon as they dry, I only have 3 chickens so I can easily quarantine them elsewhere for that time. Anyone ever try this? Anything bad happen? Did it work? Thanks!
DE does nothing but irritate the airways, and kills beneficial bugs. Get a pyrethrin based poultry dust or spray and treat the coop and your birds. Treat again in 3 weeks, than one more time in 3 weeks to break the life cycle.
