Mites?

So I was cleaning the girl's little brooder out (it's a rabbit hutch) and found a bunch of little red mites under the shavings. Never had mites before. Currently scrubbing the coop. I have Pyranha Fly Spray on hand. I plan to spray the whole coop and let it dry. Thoughts? Safe for the girls? They are two weeks old. Picked the girls up and see no mites on them. Really checked them over and annoyed them. I can run to Farm and Fleet and grab something if needed. Not sure what to do.

Go to your feed store and get permethrin concentrate like Gordon's.

Thank you. I washed the floor of the coop and pulled the boards out. I sprayed the garden spray on them. I'm gonna cover it with cardboard and put the bedding over top. Hopefully that will help. I'll take a trip to Farm and Fleet in a little bit. Will that product be safe for the girls? I hate using chemicals

We don't have a Farm and Fleet but do have a TSC. They carry permethrin spray. The mites you mentioned sound like the ones that only come out at night and feed on the birds. You may want to check them then. I use a headlamp so I have both of my hands free to check the birds over.

Thank you! I thought so too. Poor girls. I will peruse Farm and Fleet and see what they have comparable for this stuff. A dust for the girls would be nice.

We are currently building their permanent coop and sealing up every nook and cranny so hopefully if this happens in the future it will be easier to take care of.

Thank you all so much for your help. Girls enjoyed a field trip in the garden while I treated the coop. Literally saw the nasty little mites crawling out of cracks and running for their lives
