Hello, Friends.

We have a coop filled with laying hens (all at least a year+ old, some seniors.:) However, we also have several roosters. Our Amish neighbor suggested layer for the winter, but I'm reading it can cause kidney issues to the roosters!!!??? What do I feed all of these hens AND roosters so that everyone is healthy? We live in the midwest with hot summers and extremely cold winters (-20 to -30 degress) Do I feed the same feed all year round? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Feed all flock or flock raiser, with oyster shells available for the hens.
Any non laying birds (chicks, young pullets, molting hens, males) should not eat layer.
Generally, the Amish are not great sources of animal welfare information.
Recipes, yes.
I agree with you 100% when it comes to animals and the Amish. Thank you so much for your information. I really appreciate your info. Thank you so much.

All flock with oyster shell on the side in a separate container. Works for all birds regardless of age, gender or laying status all the time. No need to switch based on the season
You are awesome. You're the second person to say this. I'm going to switch tomorrow. (And all year round.) Thank you for your info.
