Mixing Breeds and sizes of chicks

I am going to be ordering chicks soon and was wondering if it would be a good idea to mix a smaller breed (not bantam) Chick with larger layers. I want to get a Phoenix hen but am afraid that the bigger ones like the Cochins and Andulusians that I’m also ordering will try to kill it. Any advice would be great thanks!

Those breeds should be okay with adequate room.

When it comes to breeding I've heard that if you want to mix a smaller bird with a larger bird you should have a smaller rooster to a bigger hen. If you do it the other way around the chicks may run out of room and not be able to go full term and die in the egg.

if you are not breeding size doesn't matter. I've had bantam's chase around Orpingtons, before. If the bigger bird is the docile one then there shouldn't be any problems.
