mixing breeds for breeding

Hi,

I have a friend who is taking our buff orphington roo. He wants a hen, too. My kids don't want to give away our orphington hen to go with him. If I give him a RI Red, will they breed? I think his plan is to let her raise chicks.

A rooster will breed with any hen mixed, pure or otherwise. If you have extra RIR hen instead of a BO he will definitely still breed her

Roosters point of view is "a hen is a hen no matter what it looks like" . Sometimes even things that don't look like hens are considered. Like the above said, he will breed with a different breed.
