Mixing breeds over time

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! Depending on what breeds you mix, you can get some incredibly unique birds. Around here, I rarely hatch any mixes BUT I do have 1 group of crossed babies right now. Mom was Cornish cross (meat bird) and I believe dad was cream legbar (at least a couple of them). We have a couple with tiny crests, one has a lot of grey on him and most of them have a couple black spots. They're only 6 weeks old though so they could change a lot as they grow.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

The best way to find out what you'll get by crossing is to study chicken genetics and learning what traits and color patterns are dominant and what genes go into them. But you can also look into land race chickens that have been breed over generations with only natural selection to see what happens over time. Easter eggers and Icelandics are two good examples.
