We have 10 Americauna hens, 10 GLW hens, and 2 RIR roosters. My question is, would it be ok to mix these breeds and raise our own chicks? We raise for meat and eggs. Please share any advice or tips. Thanks

Perfectly OK to mix breeds and create your OWN backyard flock. Just monitor to assure that the RIR don't grow so large that they injure the Ameraucana (very likely EE) hens during mating.

Backyard mixes create some great birds for the home flock. Hopefully your chicks will pick up the productivity and size genes from the RIRs.

Thanks for the info. We were hoping the RIR roos would be a good fit for our flock. Unfortunately there were very few choices when it came to roos in our area. I like the looks of the RIR and I was hoping they might pass on their larger body size to the Americauna mix chicks they produced.
