somebody else just posted a similar question, but mine is a little different and I didn’t want to hijack her thread.

I have 5 chicks - one is 2 weeks old and the other 4 are 1 week old. I’m getting 5 buff Orpington tomorrow, that are “a few days old”. Can I just put them in with the other chicks or do I need to put them by their selves for a week or so? Heres my brooder set up in an extra large dog crate...(getting pine shavings tomorrow)

Pine shavings is a good idea, you don't want them walking in too much moisture.

You'll get a bunch of opinions, but I've had hundreds of chicks and if they're under 1 month I just toss them right in together. Never had an issue.

Thank you! That’s good to know. I wasn’t sure how much difference a week would make when they are so little.

Honestly I'll throw most ages together up until about 6 weeks, basically until the point where they could get accidentally trampled. You don't have any issues with them fighting or anything at that age, your only worry is accidental deaths.

But 1, 2, 3 weeks olds together- no issues.
