I recently just got a new golden chicken. I have two Americanas and four New Hampshire reds. The golden chicken is one year old and the rest were raised as chicks and are only two months old. Are the chickens that are two months ready to be put in with an older chicken. What behavior should I expect? The first time she seemed to get mean with them. So we are caging her inside the coop so they get use to each other. Are we doing the right thing? Help new chicken owner

Keeping them separate, but where they can see and talk to each other is a fairly standard way to introduce chickens. Your two month olds are a little young now, but if you keep the new one separate for a couple of weeks they will be old enough then. When they do get together you should expect some pecking and such while the pecking order is established. It goes better if they have a lot of room and hiding places while the pecking order is established. Usually a single hen introduction is hard to do, but since it is a single mature hen being introduced to juveniles should be OK.
