Okay I am almost finished with my "big" coop and already I am thinking about a mobile coop. I would really love to let my girls free range but I live in the woods. I am so worried about preditors. So I thought about turning the brooder into a mobile coop that they can take turns in. That way they get some type of free ranging in. The brooder is 2x4. I can't get a picture to upload for some reason. Is this a good idea or should I just keep them in their run or risk real free ranging? Any ideas, tips on constructing a mobile coop (they would only be in a few hrs every other day) would be great!

Don't know if your chickens will like being alone. Mine get quite upset and verbal when they even think they are alone.
I have the same issues that you do, woodsy, lots of predators but want the girls to have opportunity to forage and need somewhere for them to visit when I need to clean the run. Planning a playground with their own compost pile to entertain them.

There are numerous threads about the question of free-ranging and the decision has to meet one's expectations and willingness to accept losses.
