Okay so I went out to feed my girls last night and I keep their feed in a galvanized can with a lid. I usually buy crumble but my DH bought pellets this time. I had been noticing the feed has a strong medicine-y odor but thought nothing of it really, I noticed last night however some of the pellets look slightly green, not all of them and they are all inter-dispersed in the can, not like one large clump of bad pellets. Anyways, I still fed to them because it wasn't like super bad, will they be okay????

I also wondered if pellets contain more moisture than the crumble because this has NEVER happened before!

Moldy feed can kill chickens- it happened to me. So I would just toss them away and get some fresh.

The pellets don't mold faster than the crumble for me. I have found that black oil sunflower seeds mold the very fastest of all. They get a sickly sweet smell to them and I can tell now just by smelling them. I had to toss some BOSS once and it just about made me cry since they are so expensive. So now I just buy the birdseed with it mixed in, instead of a whole bag of just BOSS.

update... I have new feed... crumbles. The girls luckily did not get sick at all. I also have been offering alfalfa (scraps that fall when feeding the sheep and cow) and just a little triple mix (corn oats and barley, I have it for my cow), to get them back in the pen at night. They have a new flock block too! They are very happy girls!
