Mold in the Chicken Run

I'm amazed that anything is still alive in a chicken run.

As @aart said, you can water the run but not the coop. :)
Do you mean you are surprised the plants are alive? Are you saying that because chickens scratch the roots out? I learned a technique that works great. (1)sprout germinated seeds (2)scatter (3)protect for awhile. . Chickens eat some of those germinated seeds- but some take hold & grow ...

I added black soil so you see how I have the ground protected

I am purposefully keeping their run “alive” to give them a good life.

Green in the run is a good thing, but yes, chickens normally turn their runs into barren wastelands by eating everything green and scratching out the roots of all but the largest, most well-established plants.

I just lost 2 hens 2 days apart. They were over 7 months old. I'm wondering if the extreme humidity has caused a problem in their food. No odd behavior before sudden death. 4 babies 16 months and 4 other hens not affected. Any thoughts on what the problem was? It's been over a week and no more deaths.
