Mold on veggies?

No no for chickens? Just curious. I had a few over ripe heads of cauliflower that looked a little moldy

in a few spots and did not feed. Not sure how tough their little stomachs are? Seems like a no no??

I read some where that if you wouldn't eat it then you shouldn't feed it to your chickens. I don't know how accurate that is, but thats the rule we use at home.

I have fed bread with little spots of mold on it to my chickens for years and all is well. Most of the time the common bread molds are not dangerous, we just don't like them (blue cheese on the other hand... yummy!). Doesn't seem to hurt the chickens, and I like to not waste the food.
I realize I am taking a small risk, but so far so good.

I was told you can--that chickens can eat anything-- but I love ny chickens- so I don't feed them anything I wouldn't eat aside from feed.Maybe silly-but I feel better doing it.Another exception- live bugs-LOL

Our chickens would dig through the food compost pile before we had it enclosed. It would make a mess because they were picky about what they would eat out of there the rest they would just scratch aside. They seemed to do O.K.
But I don't know if they were fine because they knew what not to eat, or if the rotting and molds did not hurt them.
But I still feel that if you would not eat it, don't give it to them.
Compost bad food if you can, you wont feel so bad about throwing food out because it will be part of the natural cycle of things rather than sitting in the landfill.
