I bought 200 pounds of Purina Flock Raiser the other day. Last night I opened it, and it was spoiled. It was clumped and moldy. The bags looked fine, so I assume it was packaged wet. The feed store will take it back and order more. I only buy that brand because I have the coupons from poultry press. The feed dealer isn't that close by, so now I will have no savings at all because of the gas it will take to return the garbage. Has anybody else had a problem with purina?

No cause I don't buy purina. Never really liked their feed for anything. My animals never seemed to do that great on it. Dunno about their poultry feed but even some random home mix of grains without doing any research usually had better results (including longterm over several years) than using purina feeds.

We have NEVER had that problem with Purina poultry products.

Make sure you are handling and storing it properly.

It is possible that the feed got wet at a feed store. I have purchased feed that got wet once. You couldn't tell by looking at the bag. When I took it back and approached the manager, I found out that they had a mop bucket spill on the feed, so they told the kid who spilled it to put the feed in front of an industrial fan to dry it out.

Needless to say, I don't shop there anymore.

I just had a moldy feed experience, also. It was bagged feed from a large chain store (no point in naming names really). We're in Wisconsin and we had all that flooding about a month ago. There's still standing water in many places around here and for a long time it was just MOIST everywhere, all day. I had it in the back of my mind to watch out for mold since not everyone/everywhere is as particular as they need to be about storage. I'm actually surprised I didn't run into more problems but my other two vendors in this area were able to supply mold free feed. The place I got the bad feed from took it back, but I had similar frustration in that they are cheaper but the drive to get the feed and then return it took away any savings. Wisconsin isn't the only state affected by all the rain and flooding... I don't know where the feed you bought was mixed, stored, etc., but perhaps in a part of the country that had flooding. We were storing around 450 lbs. of bagged custom-mixed feed for our broilers at the time of the rains and I ran a dehumidifier in the area it was stored because you could just feel the moisture in the air.
