Molting--Any nutrional suggestions to help my geese through?

Every year there's one month that keeps the geese and I on pins and needles.

Molting has begun for 3 dear friends of mine. While they're so happy and proud in new feathers, it's a harrowing time getting there. They're about 8 - 10 yrs old and the kiddos are still in pretty good health, but molting always plays havoc with their nerves. In another week, they'll go to lift a wing or twitch their tails and a flurry of feathers will snow down. It just leaves them feeling so sheepish and vulnerable (and I love them and will do anything I can for them.)

I have the kiddos on a mix that's about 16 - 21% protein (a blend of a.p. scratch and feather fixer--gradually adding in more fixer as they accept it a little more. I've been thinking of adding a little barley to the mix on the recommendation of a goose sanctuary dietitian.) So, they're getting prebiotics and probiotics, organic trace minerals, nutrients to support their immune health and supplemental greens.

Is there anything else I can provide for them to help them through the molt?

Thanks so much!

Other than what your doing I don't think there is. sounds like your are taking excellent care of them, mine will be starting into molt in June and other than balanced diet I do put Poultry Nutri drench in their water buckets every other day during molt.

Thank you so much for writing, Miss Lydia!

Your farm sounds like heaven on earth! (Any recommendations for how to start on such a beautiful path? :) )

I'm so impressed that the Poultry Nutri Drench even helps arthritis! If I could just convince the little ones before next winter to drink from bowls like they eat from them that would be such a great ease to their older joints!

I really do thank you for caring & will think of your flock over the June molt (you've so many feathers ahead!)

You've been my goose-fairy-godmother and, believe me, and the geese, ducks and coot thank you for it (even the bunnies who clean up crumbs from the birds :) The touchstone for the birds and I :)

I'm just very grateful I can turn here w/ a question and know someone's been there before and cares to see the next bird make it through.
