Molting chickens and laying eggs

I have read various things on this subject--I would appreciate your input! Our first year layers are molting profusely! So far, they have continued to lay. Is this a common thing? Don't they usually stop laying for a while, while molting?

It's perfectly normal, my hens lay just like they normally would while molting. Molting shouldn't effect their egg production.
