My four khaki campbells are now just past 14 weeks and have been dropping feathers for about a month. They are really changing color! I was fascinated with those lovely brown-on-tan oval marked feathers which are now being replaced with much lighter tan (or khaki

) feathers with very faint light lacy patterns. Their heads were all quite dark, but it looks like the new feathers are going to be lighter. Their wings all have a band of dark feathers which look almost iridescent in certain light situations. I still wonder whether I have ducks or drakes since I have never been around ducks before. They all sound alike to me.

And, as you all know about, they have wormed their way into my heart. I am sooooo happy I went ahead and brought them into my life!

I think there is some variability with length of time molting. Certainly, my newest duck Romy has her own spin on molting, about a dozen feathers a week. Seriously.

My runners do more of a traditional molt, shedding feathers and regrowing them over several weeks.

A few of them go into broody mode, then molt. Four runners are beginning to do the brood, with Fünf going into hyper-broody-cranky-pants mode.
