Can a chicken molt twice in a season? a 2 1/2 yr old hen just finished molting and she was back to normal -squatting, more friendly, now she is standoffish again and I found a small pile of feathers under the roost! & she looks a little shaggy.

you sure she didn't get grabbed by something? I don't think they moult twice?...is she acting like maybe she is sick?

No she wasn't grabbed by anything the coop and run are secure, unless one of the other hens scuffled with her. She doesn't act sick just unfriendly. I will observe her more closely today and check for anything like mites... thanks for your comments.

I had chickens molt twice but it was because i waited for the first molt to finsish before introducing some new chickens to the group. The new chickens started a molt and it caused my chickens to molt again. It is uncommon but it can happen.
