My rooster in the molting process right now and I have read in some other posts that they use alot of energy to complete this process. should I be putting out pellets or crumbles or anything to give him extra protien? my chickens are cooped up 24-7 as it is not safe for them to forage due to my many dogs and cats. they get old bread and sometimes grass clippings when lawn has been mowed in addition to the normal scratch grains. can use any advice in providing my birds a healthy diet. thanks!

Protein is what grows feathers, so any high protein foods make a good treat and help regrow them - dry cat food, cooked eggs, tuna or mackerel, yogurt or cheese, etc.

You said "normal scratch grains." Depending on the makeup, scratch is a treat, not a complete diet. They need something like flock raiser as their regular food.
