Hey, I'm new here I just bought quite a bit of chickens. The guy I bought them from said that they were in the molting stage. Is it true that if I have the appropriate feed like corn at 17%protein mixed and a nice warm chicken shed at the appropriate temp. Is it possible that they will skip the molting stage?

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Increasing protein levels can help with the regeneration of feathers. If you can get some proprietary growers or general flock feed, with a higher protein content, it would be more helpful to your girls. After their first year, all chickens will moult (unless you live on the equator, where they do not).

More generally, you'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best
