mom pecks new baby?

So my baby hatched and now i just noticed that when mom sees it she pecks! if it is under her she just sits. I do not think she was pecking at my hand. It was clearly at the baby! What do I do? ErinM

If the chick just hatched, mama hen may be trying to keep it under her to make sure it is warm enough. We don't usually see newly hatched chicks at the feed dish until they are 2 or 3 days old.

Keep an eye on her just to make sure she isn't injuring the chick.
