This is our 1st time letting a broodie hen hatch eggs. She is a Speckled Sussex and this is her first time hatching eggs. I found one chick yesterday badly wounded, dying and kicked out of the nest. The second egg started hatching this morning and I have been watching it carefully. When I checked it last time it peeped and the hen immediately pecked it hard. She seems to think it is a threat to the other eggs. We have the chick inside now and waiting for it to finish the hatch with 95 degree heat and moist, warm towels.
What should we do with her? Anyone else have a problem like this and how did you solve it? Is there any hope she will accept the chicks when they are hatched??
Thanks for any help! Wook
